Ultra-Marathon Intention

InshaAllah (Godwilling), I am running the Seneca Creek 50K on March 2, 2013. For a long time, I have been drawn to the simplicity of trail races–no t-shirts, medals, stickers, plastic cups, or anything extra. Trail running is about running: the challenge, the camaraderie, and the outside world, beautiful and slovenly in one–mud, hills, roots, rocks, creeks, streams, leaves, birds, beavers, deer, turtles, snakes, insects, shrubs, thorns, flowers, and all sorts of surprises.

The race costs $25, payable only on race day (as opposed to online), because “Why pay an additional $2.00 per head when that money can go to the aide stations, port o potties and keeping the registration cheap?” Another FAQ: “Can I get hurt, lost, cold, wet, or muddy?” answered with “Of course.” I will follow the blue, although “Sometimes the shade of blue is sky blue, blue-green, royal blue, pale blue, faded blue, regardless it is the only blue-ish trail. If you think you are off trail … back track and find the last visible blaze.”
